Badminton- Footwork See the difference with and with out step one

See the difference with and without step one!!! Now, I would like to show you the most important step in badminton I call it starter step the fact in badminton is the player does not know where opponent will hit so the player have to wait until opponent makes shot and then he or she can only move after its like traffic lights you drive car and you approach traffic lights you have to wait there until the light changes and then you can start the question is after the traffic light change after opponent hit how fast can you move that is the point the player cannot move before opponent hit player cannot move same time as opponent hit because he can’t see because he does not know where it is going to go so the fact is the player have to wait and act after now that is the fact, then we have to think what kind of step allow the player to act fast after he saw the shot I call it step one have a look this is it ready you have to do, before you go any where in badminton there must be this step one that one because that one will allow you to explosively push off for example shuttle is there you saw it, then it should be 1 2 3 1 2 3 rather than 1 2 3 4 1 its not possible in real badminton but 8 or 9 out of 10 club players are currently practising 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 backhand 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 which is not happening in the real match so if you don’t do one it looks like you are starting your car with gear 2 or gear 3 will be very slow so let’s say over there it should be 1 2 3 there 1 2 side 1 2 3 1 2 back 1 2 3 1 2 3 now compare if I don’t do one how fast can I get ready 1 2 1 2 compare 1 2 3 1 2 so where ever shuttle goes before badminton player move anywhere there will always be step one for example clear step one lift step one drive step one because you have to pause until your opponent hit it you land, because you land you can push off compare hit stop and then go hit stop and then come back but, I saw so many club players still practising the movement without one no one, no step one, no badminton this is that much important

  1. i like that you told very clearly that anticipation is NOT good, we have to WAIT and SEE where the shuttle flies!
i talked with a player about my improvements over the last months (which I attribute solely to your videos and my efford in implementing it into my game) and he disagreed when i told him i stopped anticipating.
before I saw your videos I was running around the court like rabbit, i felt like it, i looked like it after the game and i was even told it multiple times

  2. part2:
i used to get caught on the wrong foot all the time!

so the guy tells me that anticipation is important but i disagreed and im happy that you made it so clear in this video.
players who play for 10 years and looked unreachable just a few months ago now regularely lose against me just because i take your videos seriously and use every hour of training time to the most.
im aiming at those who are still much better at the moment 🙂
so big thanks again coach lee for your great explanations

  3. Hi There. Thank you very much for letting me know that you have made such improvement by following my clips. I am very pleased to know. For the anticipation, the things I mentioned in this clip is that without see the opponent shot many clup players(unexperienced) assume and make move before and resulting much problem. As level goes higher you should also develop anticipation which I have not put any clips yet. continue….

  4. Hi Coach Lee.

I have a big problem. This week i try to adapt step one. But my play become slow. A lot my over head shot are miss hit. Is it because my footwork or leg got problem. Seem i am not fast enough to hit the shuttle and opponent more faster than me. I am a bit struggle. Some more i feel a bit hurt with my racket shoulder and my left ankle. Will this affected my play?

I really need your help Coach. Thank you very much. May God bless you and your family.

  5. Imagine that you are hitting very well, believe that you move faster and practice with total believe without any unsureness. It will take some time nothing valuable things can be gained with having pain and effort. Be happy, Be positive and Believe what ever you do then you will achieve your goal. Thank you for your kind wish. Lee

  6. Is it true that you will eventually have step one for instinct and also you will not have to jump at all. Will you eventually not even leave ground with feet but simply push down and that will be your pushoff? How exagerated should this be practiced when first starting? Thankyou so much Coach Lee you r the best

  7. Thanks a lot Master Lee. I'm a tango teacher and appasionated in badminton too. I just have a question about this famous "step one": do you push in the earth with the feet or rather on your knees ? thanks for your answer

  8. Sir, do we also have to follow this step one in singles serve?
