How to train like a badminton player | SportsLab

Hi, I am Wayne Gordon. Ex-International athlete,
celebrity personal trainer, and sports rehabilitation
specialist. And today I’m going to teach you how to train
like a badminton player. Badminton is a high-intensity,
multidirectional sport, that’s repeated in short bursts. So the demand
requires the athletes to have a combination
of explosive power, speed, agility, flexibility, mobility and anaerobic fitness. In addition, it also requires
coordination and stability throughout the body. So our first exercise
is a Lunge Press. Start with the weight
in one hand, opposite to the working leg. As you step forward
and sink into a lunge position, you’re going to press the weight
above the head and hold for two seconds. Push back
into the start position and repeat the exercise
10 times on each side. Our second exercise
is a Lateral Lunge Skip. It’s a great exercise to mimic
some of the action that takes place
during the course of the game. You’re gonna start
with the feet together, skip across to one side
in a lateral lunge position and skip back to the middle and over to the other side
as quickly as possible. Again, do this
10 times on each side.
