Improve Your Switching | PingSkills | Table Tennis

Hi, I’m Alois Rosario from PingSkills. Nicolas
has asked us a question about how to improve your ability to switch. Being able to switch between your backhand
and forehand is absolutely vital in a game situation. Often in training we tend to practice
a little bit too much of one side or the other side. By practicing our switching we’re going
to start to simulate a game situation a bit more. So what’s a good drill to do to practice
that switching? My favourite is “Double Trouble”. Double trouble is where you’re going to get
your partner to block either one or two balls to the backhand side and then either one or
two balls to your forehand side. What’s happening there is you’ve got a little bit of stability
and a little bit of randomness as well. So the first ball you know is going to come here
so you play that ball. If they play the next ball here then you know that there’s going
to be the next ball into your forehand side. So that’s the certainty but after this first
ball here you’re not sure whether the ball is going to come to your backhand or your
forehand so you need to be very aware, very balanced, and ready to make the switch if
you need to. So that is a great drill to practice exactly what you’re talking about there Nicolas,
being able to cope with the changing quickly between the forehand and the backhand or vice
versa from the backhand to the forehand. Another thing that’s going to help you is
making sure that you’re watching the ball really carefully. If you are watching the
ball carefully then you’re going to get better, quicker information about where the ball is.
If you’re not watching the ball and you’re focussed on something else then suddenly the
ball is half way back and you’ve got to make that decision between the backhand and forehand.
So make sure you’re watching the ball carefully all the time.

  15. Hello, can you help me?
A friend of mine who i play very often with ( and enjoy playing with) is a bit better than me, but not too much. The problem is a kind of serve he does.He pretends to hit a backspin serve but than just hits it very softly, so it goes short and theres almost no spin in it.I know that theres not much, but when i push it, it goes into the net, and when i try to flick it, it goes wayyy to high. Thanks for any answer

  16. which serve is best for spin

  17. I like the idea of adding some stability. Could you elaborate on the exercise a little more? One or 2 to the backhand – then 1 or 2 to the forehand? Could just alternate every shot then or not. Seems like very little stability except for the first shot. Or does the sequence reset? Backhand, Backhand or forehand, (must be forehand), must be backhand? Yeah I'm confused just writing this.

  18. Do you have any tips on returning a fast serve to the corner with backhand. I find it difficult to return as the ball goes really high, so i always expect a smash. Is there any way to decently return a fast and very cornered serve with backhand?

  27. I need help i bought a racket and tried to remove the rubber but the sponge is stuck in the blade. How can i remove it the rubber is out but the sponge is left

  28. I have a question for you guys – I am left handed, and have served my whole life with my body at the left center of the table in a more relaxed "ready stance", and my arm in a looping/pushing type of motion. I have developed both a chopping backspin serve that I can land short or long, or a topspin serve long. I see all the pro players serving from the backhand side of the table, from the edge. I have been working on serving with my body positioned like the pros do, but still am far more comfortable with "my" style of serving. Should I give up serving from the left-center of the table? Should I focus more on developing a new serve, or sticking with my old one? In a competitive match, how do I balance my serve selection if I take different positions at the table for different serves?

  29. I read the Paddle Palace catalogue and it said not to clean your rubber with a kitchen sponge because bits of the sponge will get stuck on the rubber. Is this true Jeff or Alois? I OCD as hell!!! I just need to know because I have been doing this. I Always keep my kitchen sponge super damp with rubber cleaner.

  32. Hey pingskills, if TT bat gets touched on the table then is it legal ?? or a foul ??

  33. hi, is the main determining factor in the arc of a ball the rubber, the blade, or technique, or a combination?

  34. i have problem when i play using the u are using i always hit my finger on the back

  35. what if i dont toss the ball but do a perfect service where the ball taps both the sides of the table and its Low and as well spin and fast as well, thats the way i do my service and the best players around cannot play it so i get a point easyly

  36. Hey Alois n Jeff i have been playing tt since the last 2 years .I basically am a offensive and i am comfortable playing a fast game but i have observed that many of them try to slow down the game by playing just push n chop n just playing close to net . I always tend to loose in such circumstances so what will be your opinion for it.
