News 8 Sports Round Up – August 14, 2016

Evening everyone – thanks for stopping by. It was not a tough task today to get a smile out of UWL head coach Mike Schmidt. The Eagles start up preseason practice. And get your pen and paper ready for the situation at quarterback. Schmidts looking at five different arms including TARK YAY-GEE Tarek Yaeggi. A transfer from division-one ball at Buffalo. YAY-GEE is one of two transfers that join John Tackett, Andrew Thompson and Drew David at Q-B. Schmidt’s team picked to finish 6th out of 8 in the WIAC. He’s not buying that. The only thing we talked to our guys about was that we are going to do things our way. This groups way. That does not necessarily mean it’s the La Crosse way all of the time. It does not mean that we have to live up to every expectation of the national championships that have been around. Certainly that is our vision and where we are going but we want to do things our way. We are going to coach our way. We are going to play our way. And then, we are going to figure out how this thing shakes out as we get into the conference season. We are laughing and then we are like ‘Oh man, he is getting after us.’ He has all sorts of emotion and passion. I am really excited to see what he can do for us this season. Good time for a little warm-up for our hour long special ahead here in a few minutes. We’ve got your team covered. ??The question now is — can your team — cover the Onalaska Hilltoppers wideouts this season?? Head Coach Tom Yashinsky likes — his — offense. So much so that he’s just fine pairing senior Brayton Duin with junior Noad Skifton at quarterback in the early going this season. Duin racked up 22 TD throws as junior. And his weapons – you name ’em – they are all back in purple. Another team that prides itself on the passing game. Hear from the new man in charge Tory Lockington later during the special. Lockington is waiting on good news on his top athlete Erik Christopherson. The senior running back continues to work his way back from shoulder surgery. He’s out week 1 for the Bangor game. But if you watch this guy in hoops or out here… Then you know. If he’s able to play — that’s a tough deal for the rest of the Dairyland.
