It is used to create a gap or to run through the defence. It can be cross-court or straight and is mainly used with the forehand. 2 types of smash exist : The powerful smash is used in a free space to finish the point. The semi-smash near the lines is a very interesting stroke to make the opponent late or to win the point. Inconvenient : if the player is badly positioned to smash there is a risk of making a foul or being exposed to a counter-attack of the opponent. The technique of the smash : To carry out a good smash the player has to be placed behing the shuttlecock to go forward when doing his stroke. The player has to stretch the arm and hit the shuttlecock while accelerating the racket. The shuttlecock will have a descending and powerful trajectory.
