Raptor Report – MC Volleyball v Howard Highlights

The Montgomery College Raptors volleyball
team came into Thursday night’s match on the Rockville Campus with a perfect 9 and 0 record
and they were looking to make it ten straight to start the season against long time MDJUCO
rival Howard Community College. And the Raptors wasted little time, dominating
from the first serve; Chanel Sanford’s acrobatic dig made it 1-0; a back line kill from Anna
Chepurnova quickly made it 3-0; a Isabel Nelligan kill from the wing made it 6-0 and the Raptors
were in flight. And then this great point made it nine zip
and Chepurnova and Talya Huss showed great hustle and skill to win the point. And the lead eventually ballooned to 17-0
when Sanford took Huss’s sweet set and sent it into no man’s land. Howard finally got on the board to end the
incredible run, but the damage was done as the Raptors closed out the set when the Dragons
couldn’t handle Sanford’s return. The Raptors didn’t rest on their laurels after
that first set domination, as they quickly jumped on top again, here Alex Salas lays
out for the dig to make it 6-1 Raptors early. An impressive Chepurnova kill made it 8-1
MC. And when Keyshiana Fennicks made a beautiful
block of a back line kill attempt, the Raptors lead had grown to 12-3. Yet another big kill from Chepurnova made
it 14-5 Raptors. And then Anna Grace Bladen’s perfect set for
another Chepurnova kill made it 17-5 MC. Another Bladen set, this one to Nelligan made
it 21-7; a Keturah Gregory block but them on the verge and then the Raptors closed out
the set 25-8 on an ace from Talyah Huss. The Raptors didn’t take their foot off the
gas in the third set either, after another perfect Huss set Chepurnova destroyed the
ball to make it 6-3 MC. Then Salas and Bladen with set up Chepurnova
beautifully, 9-3 Raptors. Fennicks showed off her quick leaping ability
on this block to push the Raptor lead to 13-4. And then, Fennicks with the quick hands at
the net, Bladen with the set and Nelligan with the kill to make it 18-4 MC. And then the Raptors closed out the match
when Bladen added another assist and Gregory drove it home. The three set sweep moves the Raptors to 10
and 0 on the season. Next up Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday
the 25th. And I’d strongly advise the MC community to
come out and support; this team is something special to watch. For the Raptor Report, I’m Michael Brown
