Westminster High School Senior Awarded CBS 4 Denver’s ‘Future Leader Recognition’

– Julia On behalf of CBS 4 and our partners I’d like to present to you the CBS 4 Future Leader
Award congratulations. – Thank you. – So a couple of years ago several of us at CBS 4 got together with some folks from the Colorado School of Mines. And we wanted to come up
with a way to recognize high school students in Colorado who are doing outstanding
things in the field of STEM. So working with the
Colorado School of Mines we came up with the CBS
4 Future Leader Award. And each month during the school year we choose from a very
large applicant pool. Someone to recognize for
their achievements in STEM. We do get a great number
of applications each month. It’s difficult to choose
who the recipient will be. Because there are just
so many terrific students doing so many terrific things in the area of STEM in Colorado it’s hard to choose. But when we got Julia’s application it was pretty obvious that she was worthy of the award and we’re so pleased that we were able to provide that for her. – I came home and I was
screaming to my sister, my mom and dad and they were also (laughs) jumping and screaming
along with me (laughs). They were so proud of me my
dad who isn’t all that touchy feely he have me a hug and
he said I’m so proud of you. My mom she squeezed me so
hard despite being most like a freshwater than me and she told me that as soon as I fond out
when it air I had to tell her. Because she wanted to play it at her work and show it off to everybody else that her daughter was gonna
be on the news (laughs). (guitar music)
