Continuing Education Program Overview – USSA

Hello! My name is Tom Rosandich I’m the founding
president of the United States Sports Academy. The founding nearly 45 years ago. The Academy
then was founded as the only freestanding, accredited school of sport in the United States.
And that distinction remains to this date. We have grown over the years to become the
largest graduate school of sport in the United States, if not the world with accredited programs
in the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level. We have also worked over these years in some
66 countries, in fact as I speak to you, today we have 23 professors in Malaysia retraining
some 55,000 physical education teachers in that nation’s school system in the area of
sport. The Academy does many things. This building that we are standing in holds what
is the largest sport art collection, which was all a part of the Academy Awards of Sport that is held each year. Come us. Thank you. Welcome to Academic Affairs of the United
States Sports Academy. I’m Dr. Steve Butler, Dean of Academic Affairs. And I love sports,
and I love education. Here at the Academy we are fortunate to get to do both. We are
very proud of our academic programs, as the only freestanding school of sport in the country,
we are the largest graduate school of education in the world. Two other things we are very
proud of: 94% of our graduates would recommend our programs to friends or family. Second:
70% of our students work in sports. This is more than twice the average for the social
sciences. As one of only three schools in the country with accredited programs at the
bachelors, masters, and doctoral level, each of our programs is regionally accredited by
the Southern Association on Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Each of our degree
programs includes a mentorship as a capstone experience. Our mentors consistently say our
students are by far the best prepared students they’ve ever worked with. Our students rave
about the hands on experience provided by the mentorship, which really lets them practice
what they’ve learned in the classroom. And our last quarterly report, 44% of our students
received a job offer as a result of their mentorship. All of our academic programs are
completely online which allows you to take your classes at any time, from anywhere in
the world. The faculty of the United States Sports Academy, is among the best in the world
and we are here to make your sports education experience a memorable one. Come join the
thousands of graduates who are working in sports around the world. Have a great sports
day! Welcome! My name is Brandon Spradley, the acting director of continuing education
at the United States Sports Academy. For over 35 years the Academy has delivered sport programs
to over more than a quarter of a million people in over 65 countries. Through the continuing
education department the Academy offers individual courses, certificate, and certification programs
that can be used to maintain and upgrade present certifications or to stay abreast of the changes
and developments within the sport and fitness industry. CEUS also known as Carnegie Education
Units may be used for salary increases, promotions and to maintain certifications with school
districts, associations and federations. Receiving CEUs from the Academy is a good way to boost
your sports career. The basis of the Academy’s online continuing education program is divided
into individual courses which are purchased at $150 each in 3 main categories: Certificate
Programs, Certification Programs and Sport Diploma Programs. First Certificate Programs:
We have in these 5 areas. Sports Management, Human Performance, Recreation Management,
Sports Coaching and Collegiate Compliance. In these programs you will take 3 courses
for each specialization. You must pass each course with a grade of 70% or higher. Each
course is worth 40 clock hours or 4 CEUs. Certificates will be emailed to you after
you have successfully completed all three courses required in the specific area of interest.
The next category is Certification Programs. The procedures remain the same as Certificate
Programs only now, you as the student, must complete 6 courses for each area of interest.
We offer a lot more area such as Sport Security Management, Sport Fitness, Personal Training
just to name a few. Also a very interesting program is our Sports Diploma Program. It
is an extension of our Certification Program which requires you to take 2 additional courses
on top of the 6 courses in the certification program. Plus the 200 hour mentorship. The
Academy’s continuing education program serves many sport educations such as the National
Federation of State High Schools Associations, the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and USA Track and Field. You
can earn CEUs from the Academy through these organizations. Our partnership with the NFHS
allows you to earn semester credit hours at the bachelor’s and master’s level. I must
remind you that these credits hours are not toward a degree program but there are certainly
benefit your education and your sports career. The Academy for many years has established
international sports programs for numerous countries. Currently we have programs in Malaysia,
Thailand, and Shanghai. For more information about the Academy’s Continuing Education Department
you can browse the website under Continuing Education tab, email us [email protected]
or give us a call at 251-626-3303. Thanks for spending time with us and we hope you
decide to advance your career through the United States Sports Academy, America’s Sports
University. Hello and welcome to Library here at the United States Sports Academy. My name
is Dr. Rob Hudson and I’m the Librarian and Archivist for the Academy. And we’re standing
here in the Olympic Library Room. And behind me are Olympic recorders, one part of our
extensive collection here at the Library. Our mission at the Library of course is to
support all of you, ensuring that faculty, students and staff have access to superior
academic and sports specific learning materials, e-resources, and books of course. At this
time we have about 9,000 monographs here physically at Daphne. Electronically we have access to
many hundreds of thousands of unique journals. Over 270,000 through three primary databases
that I hope you get acquainted with: Gale, EBSCO, and ProQuest. One of the most used
resources is part of EBSCO and it’s the sports Disqus database, which is specific to sports.
Our mission at the Library is to collect electronic and printed materials specific to sports,
so we are a very unique organization. In addition to rooms like this, the Olympic Library, we
have other special collections. We have an art collection for example, and also a circulating monograph collection of
almost 10,000 volumes. Students may borrow most of these books by placing a request.
I really, really hope if you come to Daphne you come to visit us here at the Library.
Thank you so much.
