POWER of WORDS: Object lesson & toothpaste game for KIDS


We played a game in class today and it got a little bit messy but the kids absolutely loved it ‘Get set, GO!’ 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, stop!’ After the first two kids squeezed out all their toothpaste and we have a look at it and go we’re not finished with the game yet, you need to pick a partner to finish the game. And this is what happens… Each of you are gonna take a spoon and we’re going to count down and give you 10 seconds and what you’re gonna have to do with the spoon is you’re gonna have to take it and try to get it back in there and we going to see who gets the most back in there – ok? on your mark, get set, GO! 10, 9, 8, 7 , 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, STOP! Let’s have a look at that. Do you think they did any good? You think you got more in the tube? After the game I introduce the topic for the day which is WORDS and then we spend a lot of time looking in the Bible at many proverbs that talk about how we use our words and the kids can follow along and copy and their notebooks or on a sheet that I have prepared for them. Then I get back to the game at the end of the lesson and I ask those kids whose job it was to get the toothpaste out how hard it was. And they said, that was pretty easy. Then I asked the kids whose job it was to put the toothpaste back in and they say, aw.. it’s hard and one kid said, ‘it was impossible!’ now let me ask you another question, How are words and toothpaste alike? And then they start thinking and hands start going up and then kid says, ” I know, words are like toothpaste because it’s easy to get the out and you can’t take them back. I say, ya, that’s right! And isn’t the Bible good at reminding us to use our words for good. There’s also a memory verse that I teach the kids and there’s also a really good clip from kid president that the kids really enjoy.
